On Saturday, May 16th, 12:00 pm, the Straight Eights will gather in historic Clifton, Virginia, for a wine shop tour and lunch followed by dessert and coffee at member Rich Cardinale’s home.

The Clifton Wine Shop and Tasting Room has agreed to host an informative, personalized wine consultation for club members starting at 12:00 pm (noon). Wine shop owner Lucinda, who has extensive knowledge of wines, has selected six wines to review and will offer brief, but informative, explanations about the background and composition of the wines. The cost of the session will be $6.00, which includes snacks.

Afterward, between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm, members will walk to one of Clifton's newest and most highly rated restaurants, Trattoria Villagio. Located in a newly renovated, historic building adjacent to the Clifton Wine Shop, the restaurant has put together a special menu of lunch offerings ranging in price from $8.00–$14.00 and will host the club in its events room located on the second floor. Members are invited to grab a beverage and visit the restaurant's enclosed outdoor piazza, complete with fireplace. Unfortunately, space limitations will not allow us to have lunch on the piazza.

While in Clifton, club members are encouraged to explore this beautiful old town, which is described on its website as a "quaint relic of the past" and "functioning a few decades behind the rest of the world." Clifton's small, but charming, "downtown" is composed of houses that are almost all more than 120 years old. In addition to several restaurants, the town boasts a general store (complete with vintage Texaco sign outside), ice cream shop, florist, antique collector, and two gift shops, as well as a train crossing that dates to the 1800s.

From there, members are invited to Rich Cardinale's home, located approximately eight miles away (a pleasant drive), for coffee, dessert, and conversation.
