Straight Eights Trip to the Baltimore Inner Harbor and National Aquarium

On SUNDAY, August 21, the Straight Eights will be enjoying the air conditioned spaces of the Harborplace eateries, the National Aquarium, and take the opportunity to dare the weather and stroll along the waterfront to check out the various attractions.

We will meet at 11AM in front of the tall ship Constellation, which is docked at Harborplace near the corner of E. Pratt St. and Light St., and from there decide on which lunch venue to converge upon (we will have some choices ahead of time, and scope out any eatery where we might secure a reservation, or select one of several walk-up counters).

We plan to go to the aquarium at 1PM, however there are a few Things to Know about the aquarium in order to be prepared:

  1. National Aquarium admission is $39.95 per person. Admission is on your own. (For those of you who decide not to visit the aquarium, there are lots of other things to see at the Inner Harbor).
  2. Sometimes, tickets sell out for a particular time slot, so if you are planning to tour the aquarium as part of your Inner Harbor visit, we advise you to purchase your tickets online in advance. As of right now, there are 94 tickets available for 1PM, 90 tickets available for 1:15PM, and 100 tickets available for 1:30PM.
  3. Visit http://www.aqua.org/tickets for more information and to purchase tickets in advance.

Recommended parking for the Inner Harbor/Aquarium is one of the two garages on South Gay St. (yay!) between Pratt and Lombard streets. The Lockwood Place garage is closest and has 6’9” high clearance for those of you driving trucks and SUVs. You can even reserve/buy parking in advance.

For more information on parking and directions, see the web site below:

Other than the aquarium and Harborplace, there are numerous shops, restaurants, bars, the U.S.S. Torsk submarine open for touring, the Maryland Science Center with the Davis Planetarium, an IMAX theater, and other attractions; all good places to socialize with car club friends.

So that we know who will meet us in front of the Constellation at 11AM, please RSVP to StraightEightsPresident@gmail.com by Friday, August 19.
