Fall Foliage is Around the Corner!!

Our Fall Foliage weekend is fast approaching and we are returning to Hunter Mountain for our 2018 Empire Region Fall Foliage weekend and car show at Mills Mansion!

Mills Mansion in Staatsburg New Yorkis an Historic Site that was the elegant country home of Ogden Mills and his wife Ruth Livingston Mills. Sitting atop a grassy hill overlooking the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, their house is a fine example of a great estate built by America's financial and industrial leaders during the Gilded Age (1876-1917).

This year we are planning another spectacular event around the Mills Mansion “Gathering of Cars” show.  Members are still talking about the fabulous time they had last year.  This year we are returning to scenic Hunter Mountain in Greene County, New York and staying at the Hunter Inn, www.hunterinn.com.  This is a charming 42 room hotel located on Main Street,Hunter, a short drive to Windham, Hudson, Catskill, Kingston, Saugerties and Woodstock.

Howe Caverns:

Are you ready for a fun day out?  Howe Caverns is one of the most exciting NYS attractions.
Every tour of Howe Caverns starts with a 156 ft descent below the earth’s surface…
Your journey will wind through limestone corridors, cavernous galleries under massive boulders, until you discover a subterranean riverbed carved over countless millennia. Deep in the cave, solid rock appears fluid: creating strange formations, flowing sheets and dripping stalactites. Mysterious grottos lead off into distant, unexplored passages. Shadows hide secrets in deep cracks and crevices. The well-worn path twists and turns descending into the depths, downward to the glassy surface of an underground lake that trails off into the absolute darkness of the cave’s Eastern Terminus… this is the Howe Caverns ultimate experience.

Please dress appropriately for maximum comfort during the tour. Bring a light jacket and wear comfortable shoes that give you a good level of traction. For your safety, flip flops are not allowed on the cavern tour.  The cavern environment is a constant 52° Fahrenheit / 11° Celsius and 70-75% humidity, year-round.Pets, large bags, backpacks, food and beverages, selfie sticks and tripods are not permitted underground. To help protect the cave environment, touching rocks and formations is prohibited. Cave formations can be very fragile to the touch and may break. The oils in your skin may stop the growth of cave formations and damage the natural beauty of the caverns.Wheeled devices and strollers are not permitted in the cavern.
There are no restrooms in the caverns. Please remember to use the facilities above ground prior to your tour departure. You will be underground for approximately 90 minutes for the walking tour and boat ride.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Howe Caverns @ 518-296-8900.  Or visit then at HoweCaverns.com
The Plan:  We will meet at David & Michael’s home on Saturday and depart at 11:00am sharp.  We will caravan together, and stop along the way for an early lunch (to leave room for the banquet dinner) at The Middle Village Italian& Grill Family Style Restaurant, located in Middleburgh, a short distance from the cavern.  The Restaurant is 35 miles from the house and the Cavern is 11 miles from the restaurant.

We know this will be a weekend you do not want to miss.  The Hunter Inn has been very accommodating to us and are very excited to have us return.  For those who attended last year, you know the resort is well maintained, clean, and the staff is very friendly.

Any questions regarding the weekend just email David at lccbaron@aol.com

Remember to book your rooms with The Hunter Inn ASAP since we have a limited number of rooms reserved for us.

Looking forward to seeing you in Hunter.
