January Event - Washington Auto Show and Lunch

Join the Straight Eights on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Washington Auto show at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Click here for directions and parking.

As in the past, we plan to meet between 9:30 and 9:45 AM at the top of the escalator from the Mt. Vernon Square, 7th St., Convention Center Metro Station so that we can be among the first ones in, tickets in hand, when the doors open at 10:00am. In the past, they have kindly let us wait just inside the convention center doors to get in out of the cold – there is an entrance door at the top of the escalator, so go inside to meet the group. (If something odd happens, like the doors are locked, we will try to post a note on the door).

Additionally, we have a special treat this year:  Members Chuck Wellard and Bob Mattingly graciously offered to host a post-show luncheon at their exquisite home at The Whitman condominium in Mt. Vernon Triangle, just a few footsteps away from the convention center. This will be a catered lunch with beverages.  We ask that participants contribute $10 toward costs (the club is covering half the cost + gratuity). The lunch will be held between 12:30PM and 2PM.  Address and directions will be provided to those who RSVP.

We are also continuing the traditional incentive for you to renew your club membership for 2020: Admission to the show will be FREE for paid, registered 2020 club members!

Club member Dan Ryan of Mazda USAhas again offered to donate a bundle of car show passes to us for distribution, and the club will purchase however many additional tickets we need for 2020 registered club members, so you do not need to purchase your own ticket in advance! Your guests, if non-members, will need to purchase their own tickets.

If you have not yet renewed your membership and paid your dues, you will want to do that at least a few days before the car show, so that your name will appear on the membership roster we will use at the show for verification. Thanks for taking care of this as soon as possible if you haven't already done so. Remember that if you do not renew by March 31, 2020, you will be removed from the list of active LCCI/Straight Eights members and will no longer receive club communications.

Since we need to provide a head count to the caterer in advance, please RSVP by Monday, January 20 to if you are able to join us.We need you to state if you are attending the car show, the lunch, or both!

ALSO, if the weather looks threatening, check your email and our Facebook page on Friday evening in case we need to cancel.  We plan this to be a “snow or shine” event, but if some horrible blizzard pops up, we might need to rethink that decision.

We look forward to seeing you at the show!
